AIR QUALITY PROGRAMS...
Here to serve the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, the Leech Lake Air Quality Program started in May 2001 with an Air Quality Specialist and today has grown to add an Air Quality Technician. The Air Program has made outstanding progress addressing a variety of air quality issues such as:
OUTDOOR AIR QUALITY PROJECTS (CLICK)

diesel school bus retrofitting,
•
illegal burning (burn barrels),
•
wind feasibility studies,
•
PM 2.5 monitoring,
•
dioxin monitoring,
•
mercury monitoring, and
•
meteorological data collection.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY PROJECTS (CLICK)
•
mold,
•
radon,
•
environmental tobacco smoke.
The Air Program performs indoor air quality assessments addressing mold and radon issues to promote better indoor air quality for Leech Lake Reservation Members. The Air Quality Program has also worked on jurisdictional issues such as rewriting the Open Burning Ordinance for Leech Lake, developing an emissions inventory for the Leech Lake air shed, we will soon obtain Treatment as an Affected State (TAS) status, and by participating in a variety of workgroups and organizations to promote the Leech Lake Air Program and Tribal interests The Air Quality Program participates in as many outreach events/opportunities as possible via radio, newspapers, TV, events, schools, and individually to educate the public about steps they can take to better their air quality indoors and out..
