Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the cost of a license?
The cost varies dependent on each type of permit you buy. There is no cost for people who are 62 years of age and older.

How long is my license good for?
Most licenses are valid through the respective season dates. The fishing permits are usually valid through March of the following year.

Do children need a license?
Youth that are 16 years of age or younger do not need to purchase an angling license, however they need to purchase a wild rice harvesting, commercial bait harvesting, and personal use permit.

Where do I purchase a license on the weekend?
We have several licensing agents located throughout the Reservation. They provide this service to our customers after regular business hours and on the weekends.

Is my watercraft license good off the reservation?
As long as you have it properly registered and the valid sticker is legible, it is good throughout the state of Minnesota .

Does my 14 year old son need a gun safety certificate to get a hunting license?
Yes. He may take a gun safety training class offered through our Conservation Enforcement Department or from one of the public schools that offer a gun safety class during the school year.

Can I purchase a family license?
No, we only sell individual permits.

Where do I report a violation, for example: dogs chasing deer, road killed deer, or an injured eagle?
You may contact our office at 1-800-442-3942. All information is written on an ICR Report Form and given to one of our officers. If it is an emergency, the DRM secretary/receptionist will contact the officer via cell phone for an immediate response to a fish/game/wildlife violation.
