TIMBER SALES ...

Timber sales are a big part of the Forestry Department. There are numerous reasons why we set up timber sales. The three main reasons are:

• To open up areas for homesites, roads, etc.
• To improve the stand condition for remaining trees.
• To capture some economic value from the forest.

The money generated from timber sales goes to the rightful ownerships. Leech Lake Reservation consists of: Minnesota Chippewa Tribe lands, Leech Lake Band lands, and Allotments. If you are curious whether or not an allotment you are an heir to is having a timber sale considered, please refer to the “Allotments” page within the “Forestry” directory.

The following is a current list of timber sales:

The Forestry Department has put together a list of allotments that we feel are due for a timber harvest.  There is substantial time and effort in getting approval to harvest.  For each allotment, the heirs will be contacted via letters asking for their permission.

If you are an heir to one or more of the following allotments and would like to know more about what type of silvicultural prescription is planned, please contact the Forestry Department at (218) 335-7418 or (800) 442-3942.
